"poverty" is a very subjective thing . . . .
the "poor" in the USA are richer than the middle-class in Europe.
btw, why are you still living in the USA ??

And take a look at the healthiest and happiest countries on earth, the Scandinavian countries and New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland. Those folks beat us in everything and they all have large governments, high taxes, universal health care and affordable to free education; and a wealthy middle class much better off than us.

Gee, don't see your favorites on the list.
en.wikipedia.org

Norway has a population 4,676,305 (July 2010 estimate)

Sweden has a population of 9,074,055

Denmark has a population of 5,515,575

Iceland (if you want to consider it) hopes to break a population explosion of half a million by 2100

Just give you an idea, the population of these countries combined is about 5.45% of the U.S.

A twofer for you bentway

The largest branch of our government that is completely socialist is our military.

We do have an enormous standing military with a big budget, that these tiny little itty bitty European nations don't have. Including Canada. . . .

But you probably are rrrrrrright about having few rich and few poor, but mostly healthy people. But we will be there to protect their asses.

We are 65th in the world in income inequality and half our population is near the poverty level.
You should look up the standing in the U.S. for healthcare of the elderly.
