Well, the alternative theory (to your conclusions) of the pub policy makers i was referring to is that if the party doesn't adapt to the trending cultural changes in America it will die/whither on the vine--and so they foresee change as a necessary ingredient to pub survival. Just because that seems like a rational response for the Republican Party to adopt though-doesn't necessarily mean it will come about. I do agree with your view that many of them seem incapable of change.
