The most common microbes that cause food poisoning in the United States and
some foods they have been associated with, according to the federal Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention:

Campylobacter: Found in poultry, raw milk, untreated water. 4,000 illnesses
per 100,000 people a year.

Salmonella: Eggs, poultry, meat, fresh produce. 2,000 illnesses per 100,000.

E. coli 0157:H7: Ground beef, raw milk, lettuce, unpasteurized cider and apple
juice. 25 illnesses per 100,000.

Vibrio species: Seafood, particularly raw shellfish. 10 illnesses per 100,000.

Listeria: Ready-to-eat foods, such as soft cheese, deli foods. 1.5 illnesses
per 100,000. jk
