There is absolutely nothing unusual about adjusting data as more is learned about the phenomena and better technique and better models have been developed, in fact it is routine in scientific circles. If there is any hanky panky going on peer reviewers will find it and others will try and reproduce the data. If no one can reproduce the data it is considered to be wrong.... About 20 years ago, a couple of scientists published results and held news conferences declaring that they had produced cold nuclear fusion..... It didn't take the scientific community too long to discount their results largely since no one could reproduce their experiments.... This is something that is part of scientific research that is not done in medical research. A medical research paper rarely, if at all, includes other workers data in their reports...... Scientific papers are expected to include the work of others for comparison or for support of the authors work.
