I know Volcker raised interest rates. He raised them and raised them and raised them. Given Carters demonstration for being bold, I don't think for a second if he had been reelected that he would have held his ground - he sure wouldn't have lent support by firing the air traffic controllers. Everything about Carter was that he was soft and non-confrontational. You are welcome to having another opinion, but you would be arguing for the case that all of sudden Carter had changed. As a person he was a great man - as a President he was weak. Thus an approval rating hovering around 30% when he left.

As to clueless; are you arguing that 11.2% federal funds rate wasn't high? Anyone who argues that hasn't a clue as to what high interest rates do to the economy. Good gosh!!! I used the example of the WPPSS as a case in point. Many many people lost their life savings by trying to keep up with inflation and sinking their money in supposedly safe bonds of a utility.
