You have two acres on which you grow corn. On one acre you add a fertilizer and on the other you don't.

Then you harvest the crop and compare the yields on each acre to see if the fertilizer increased the yield enough to warrant buying it to put on the land.

The first thing you learn is about a simple t test equation which can tell you if the fertilizer helped the yield to a certain degree of confidence.

The entire universe is about probability.
