Legendary Chicago “Superjock” Larry Lujack died Wednesday evening after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer at his home in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 73. Lujack and his wife Judith lived in northwest suburban Palatine for 15 years before moving to Santa Fe, N.M. in 1998, she said. “He was just the most amazing husband, a person who cared about everybody,” Judith said by phone Wednesday night. “He didn’t care about the hall of fame, or being the ‘Superjock.’ He cared about giving, and being a decent human being,” she said. Judith said Lujack did not want any memorial services, and that his body will be donated to the University of New Mexico Medical Center for research, she said. “I know for a fact he doesn’t want any of this, the obituaries, the memorials. He was a very private person,” Judith said. “He was just Larry. He loved those around him.” In addition to his wife, Lujack is survived by his three adult children, a stepson and two grandchildren.
