Yeah, there were all sorts of reasons. Nixon's monetary moves were considered rather ill-conceived in retrospect. But I consider Reagan the "Father of Deficits". Before him we were hanging around that One Trillion level and the idea of the National Debt rising by multiple Trillions during one President's term was UNIMAGINABLE. He made it common place. Since Reagan we've had 3 of 4 Presidents raise the National Debt by multiple Trillions... Part of that psychology was shown by Dick Cheney on national television in 2005 when he said, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter."

Of course that combination you sight supports the fact that Jimmy Carter's policies actually DIDNT cause all the problems like these wingnutz claim... of course they avoid the fact that he hired Volcker like the plague as well as the chart of oil prices because they dont fit their version of the wingnut chant. Of course BOTH parties are guilty of treating presidents like "gods" (look at the claims about Hoover) in that they are somehow responsible for how the economy is under their watch... kinda laughable to watch. The RWingNutz have taken it to a new level currently... so they are the latest joke. Look for sizable socialist swing coming in the future do to RWingNut morons making voting republican uncool. DAK
