There's little of Gopnick's Mind & Matter article there, only usual useless repetitive cherry picked rant insertion from the stupifying special creationist slant. That there's an unbridgable gap between humans & apes is some kind of news flash? Yes there is gap which involves a long gradual lapse of 4-5mil years, we ourselves are the continuity. All the result of those slowly evolving physiological & behavioral adaptations that usually involve changing habitat like the obvious one of walking upright?

Most human children given the information, images of skeletal similarity & some background could abstract alot whats called evolution theory by 12yrs, you poor fellows seem to be perpetual in ritual denial.

What causes evolutionary changes? Most usually this would be adaptation to new habitat, which only the slightest use of your abstract capabilities should be able to appreciate of that kind of pressure. Perhaps a class in physical anthropology might help out with understanding the racial differentiation. We have several dispersion models from out of Africa based on some marvelous wide range studies in genetic marker samplings.

But you can't imagine what might pressure these gradual changes from all the fossil & genetic data we have? Subject to new environments & climates after these migrations & dispersion? Back to the earliest bipedalism & adaptaion to living on the plains? Epic fail, we expected no less, now go sit in the corner, maybe try spinning yarn & make yourself really useful.
