RE:No fossil fueled generator can come close to the reliability of my system.. 0 downtime the last 12 years.

This reveals the complete detachment from reality that I have come to expect from greenies.

I see your comparing local fossil fuel generation to solar power, not grid power to solar power. If the grid is unavailable in your case then it is possible that you've saved yourself money. Although the initial installation, esp. back then would have been a lot more than a fossil fuel generator. The fuel gets used over time, so much of the cost would not be at the begining and thus have a lower time value of money factor.

I've already saved a lot of money over a fossil fueled generator Tim. And also increased the market value of the house according to my local county tax assessor.

I'm currently planning a 7 Kw Pv system here at my grid connected home down here in the Seattle area. After a careful load analysis over 6 years of consumption it pencils out very well. With no tax credits or subsidies it will pay for itself in about 8 years. After that it's gravy. Plus add in the increased market value of the house..

What's not to like??

Plus it will keep a pure electric car happy. Allowing for 200 miles a week of driving which I don't come anywhere near since I'm retired.
