Koan,
Helping people does not make them dependent.
If true, then the budgets of SS and Medicare wouldn't be growing in both absolute dollars and percentage of the federal budget. Instead, they would remain a fixed percentage of the budget, which would have been determined a generation or two after their creations.

The reality is that they do indeed create more dependents, and that's by design.

The cost of books and tuition is now at record highs and climbing as a result of the student loan program, yet another example of a misguided attempt by government to "help people".

University education is now out of reach of the vast majority of American kids as a result of government trying to help.

Please, God. Stop government from helping people. Quickly.
