IMO the HSR stimulus money should have been spent to improve and grow existing service especially where the population density warrants the investment.

When Iived in Hoboken, and had to schlep to D.C. for meetings from time to time, the train was far better than getting to Laguardia on public trans,, taking the shuttle, and cabbing into town.

All in all, the train was faster and cheaper and unlike the shuttle, ran regardless of weather.
