Thanks for your thoughtful response. I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek re java/bill gates; these are icing on the cake! I plan to go back on this thread and read up. As you say, it's better to have several opnions from which to choose. My field is clinical medicine and although I use many technologies I would have to consult a professional if any of these technologies were to go awry.
