Professor admits faking AIDS vaccine to get $19M in grants By Andy Soltis December 26, 2013 nypost.com An Iowa State University professor resigned after admitting he falsely claimed rabbit blood could be turned into a vaccine for the AIDS virus. Dr. Dong-Pyou Han spiked a clinical test sample with healthy human blood to make it appear that the rabbit serum produced disease-fighting antibodies, officials said. The bogus findings helped Han’s team obtain $19 million in research grants from the National Institutes of Health, said James Bradac, who oversees the institutes’ AIDS research. The remarkable findings were reported in scientific journals but raised suspicions when other researchers could not duplicate Han’s results. The NIH uncovered the scam when it checked the rabbit serum at a lab and found the human antibodies. Han resigned from his university post as an assistant professor of biomedical studies in October. His case came to light this week when it was reported in the Federal Register. Han agreed last month not to seek government contracts for three years, the register said.

In 2009, four Christian orphanage workers were beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam. Now Somalia has gotten enough of its act together to ban Christmas. The Somali Government has banned celebration of Christian festivities in the country. The Director General of the ministry, Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow Aden, and the Director of the Religious Matters, Sheikh Ali Sheikh Mohamud alias Sheikh Ali Dhere, held a press conference in the capital Mogadishu, to make the announcement. “We alert fellow Muslims in Somalia that some festivities to mark Christian Days will take place around the world in this week,” said Sheikh Ali Dhere during the press conference, adding: “It is prohibited to celebrate those days in this country.” Mr Aden, on his part, stated that all security and law enforcement agencies had been instructed to counter any such celebrations. He added that copies of the directive were delivered to hotels and other meeting places in Mogadishu. Meanwhile Obama has plowed at least $1.5 billion into the terrorist Muslim hellhole. On January 17, 2013, the United States formally recognized the Federal Government of Somalia as an acknowledgement of the recent political and security gains in Somalia. The United States is committed to assisting Somalia. At the second London Conference on Somalia on May 7, Deputy Secretary William J. Burns announced plans to provide, subject to Congressional notification, an additional nearly $40 million for Somalia. Since 2009, the United States has provided over $1.5 billion in assistance to Somalia, including $545 million in FY 2012. The U.S. Government hopes to continue substantial financial support to Somalia in future years that will support Somalia’s progress and transition to longer-term development. Meanwhile Somali migration to the United States continues unabated so that the United States can become as peaceful and tolerant as Somalia.

The 33-year-old mother was near the intersection of 12th Street and Elm Avenue in Midwood about 2:45 p.m. Saturday when a man approached her from behind, swung at the back of her head and knocked her to the ground, police said. Nothing was reported stolen. The woman sustained minor injuries to her hands and knees, police said. The attack appears to follow the pattern of the alleged “knockout game" assaults that have taken place over the past couple of months in Midwood and Crown Heights. In the knockout game, a random victim is punched in the head and knocked to the ground. Nothing is stolen during the assault. Police did not immediately say whether they were investigating Saturday's assault as part of the knockout pattern. Police described the suspect as a man with short braids, about 5-foot-8 and weighing 180 pounds. He wore a black wool cap, green jacket, and dark jeans, officials said.
