We have funny concepts of rich and poor and happy and unhappy. A rich guy is really someone that has his house and vehicle paid for no matter how big or small he is in the 1% category in N. America. If we all woke up Friday morning with no desire for shiny new toys our material world would come crashing down.

I took a friend of mine to visit another friend and his family in S. America a few years ago - the gentleman and his wife lived on 3 or 4 acres with their 3 kids in walking distance of the town in a house he had built himself. A little Honda generator powered the house and a water well but no indoor plumbing or any of the other niceties we take for granted. He owned his own little metal business and his wife was a teacher. My stupid friend could not stop bewailing after how sad it was to meet those poor but hospitable poor people and they were so generous and hospitable in bringing us in and sharing what little food they had. These people were happier and probably in their own way had more material wealth and certainly were more educated than mi amigo estúpido.
