The talking heads are trying their best to get Jerry Brown into the 2016 mix. I thinks he's too old, but this would be fun...

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had choice words for California Governor Jerry Brown at the Republican National Convention last week, telling the crowd that " California made a bad choice by going with an old retread."

But at a United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 meeting on Friday, Brown had a few words of his own.

"There's nothing wrong with being a little retread. Not as much hair, I've slowed down a little bit," said Brown. "But I have to tell you, I ran three miles in 29 minutes two nights ago. And I hereby challenge Governor Christie to a three-mile race, a push-up contest and a chin-up contest. Whatever he wants to bet, I have no doubt of the outcome."

Pretty good nugget.

I have very good liberal friends (a couple raised Catholic) who have withdrawn from the church-sort of. But the women has a harder time and so when the church asked her to join a church book club to discuss books, she said OK.

So she was speaking with me about how complicated the book was. I asked her what the name of the author was and found a lecture by her on youtube.

Then I wrote her back and said: "the reason it is so complicated is because she is just making stuff up. No one could follow it. She was speaking about how evolution and Jesus compliment each other. Nonsense.

And I just had another discussion with a good friend about a paper entitled; "Chapter and Verse by Kerry Temple about Margaret Mitchell. She says: " To approach religion with intellectual rigor, says divinity school dean Margaret Mitchell, is to play with fire. She stokes the fire"

I skimmed the paper. My response to my friend (who is a lawyer and atheist) was, she is arguing the particulars of the bible. Within is a closed system. So where is the fire?

The only fire would be arguing about the bible, not what is in it. IMO.
