I personally don't think it is good to have people dependent for so long on a government dole. It is bad for them and the economy. One can argue about what is "so long'. In other words reasonable minds can differ about it.

There are jobs out there in different sectors. For one thing, the trucking industry is crying for drivers at about 40k a year. Sure, it's not an ideal job, but it is living. So if the ending of unemployment forces people to take on things they wouldn't normally consider I consider that a good thing.

However, I also do think it is the government's responsibility to adopt polices that encourage economic growth and sponsor educational benefits that permit people to get the skills they need to participate in that economy.
I'm for teaching people to fish with government help on the tuition.

<<<< Are you sympathetic to Rand Paul's position? >>>>

I like Rand's daddy, but have been shy to embrace Rand. I said early on that he needs to learn politics and whether or not he does that successfully will depend on how he ultimately does at the national level. CERTAINLY he doesn't get an embrace from me just because of his daddy's sperm.

BUT, he sounded pretty good this morning on the talk shows. Maybe he is learning! .........On extending unemployment insurance; He said yes he could support it but that support depended on two things - that it be paid for and that some government benefit package for high unemployment zones be a part of the package. Sensible! ...........On passing an immigration bill; he would support a bill that didn't grant them citizenship, but granted them extended worker permits. Sensible! On NSA wiretapping; government is way out of whack here. Should Snowden be granted amnesty? No but neither should he be given a long sentence. Make a deal and bring him back. Again sensible. On Obamacare, well you know he isn't going to be for that. Sounded pretty good to me. Not so good as to embrace unequivocally, but good enough I will watch him.
