Alex, I know several truckers who have taken the training, including the worst alcoholic I've ever known, an old high school buddy. He passed the training and immediately got a job paying around $15 an hour to start as a "co-driver", paired with a more experienced driver. He's now an owner-operator, financing a Volvo sleeper tractor and making a good living.

I only know two guys ( out of about 20 ) that took training with this guy that didn't get immediately hired - one failed a drug test and the other smashed a trailer while trying to back into a loading dock in training. You immediately flunk out if you do that.

My old high school buddy is still floggin' the big rigs. Whenever I see one headed my way, I look to see if it's him. If it was him, I'd get as far away as possible!

I never intended it to be as panacea for everyone, Alex. It was just one example of a place in the economy where there is opportunity for the able bodied

i do support unemployment benefits--I just don't support them forever. Like many things in life it is a balancing act and a compromise of opposing forces (the need to get on with one's life and temporary help while one does).

I hope you noted my support of government assistance for job training also. it would be a shame if you had me pigeon holed on the dark side when the picture IMHO is much more complex than that. You can handle little complexity right, Alex?
