What else is an intrusion?

The cost of the spending (and thus the taxes to pay for it) where already dealt with separately

"And big government isn't just a problem of spending, its also a problem of control, and the military doesn't exert too much control over most Americans"

" Other than requiring a lot of tax money (and thus taxes which are directly an intrusion and also involve intrusion in reporting requirements etc.) the military doesn't intrude much at all."

Other forms of intrusion like increased airport security are both modest (at least compared to many of the other things government has long done), and not really connected to Iraq or Afghanistan, and is not performed by the military or using the military budget.

Increased NSA surveillance might be considered a different category (invasion of privacy rather than intrusive control, although it involves some of the later particularly against providers). Also while significant, it 1 - Involves less intrusive control than many other government activities (say the war on drugs, or the IRS, or Obamacare), 2- Isn't part of the war or the DoD budget.

Ordering members of the military to fight is exerting control over them, but its control they signed up for.

How does the military exert intrusive control over your life? And not just intrusive control but a great deal of it, enough to be signifcant compared to the control that the IRS, regulatory bodies, etc. exert over your life?
