Hi WR; Re: "Hard to believe it took 2 Bushes 3 times as long as Carter to create 1/3 as many jobs, isn't it?";

Presidents don't create jobs for millions of people. At best they employee a tiny percentage.

The vast majority of jobs in the US are created by private enterprise.

The changes in the number of employed that happen to occur during the occupancy of one president or another cannot be attributed to them any more than the weather can be attributed.

I realize that it's human nature to demand super-human powers from our leaders and when they fail (that is, when the incredibly complicated and massive economy doesn't turn out the way we'd like), we blame them. And when things go well we give them credit. But presidents have very little power over the day-to-day hiring decisions of millions of business people.

They don't tell us this when they're running for office because people like to think that things have a cause that they can understand and effect. Hence an election consists of two liars claiming that they can do things that are beyond their control.
