All you need to know about Brooks is that he is a right winger, so how much has he figured out? Correctly? Not much. David Brooks has always been a weak thinker and a bit of a clown e.g. he still has no idea why the left and dems have the better ideas. Notice he doesn't mention alcohol. I'll bet you a cyber beer he is a drinker! Sure there will be good and bad with legalizing pot, but the good will greatly outweigh the bad. When I was in college we also smoked pot and that is about all we did. No alcohol at all. Zero. And when we gave it up, like Brooks we also just sort of quit. We got bored with it. And no withdrawal at all. But having pot illegal, as we became professionals many of us turned to alcohol as it was legal. So making pot illegal forces people to drink instead. How often do you hear anyone ever mention that!!? Most of my friends would have preferred to smoke pot, but were scared to. Teachers, lawyers, etc. Yes, kids should not be allowed to smoke it and they should also not be allowed to drink or smoke. That is the parents job to maintain that. But there has also never been any studies showing any brain damage in adults. In alcohol drinkers you can SEE the brain damage as the brain visibly shrinks. And a great poker player who drinks will not be great in old age, but a great poker player who smokes will not lose a lick. I was at the top of my game at 66. After 40 years of smoking pot. One of the best things about pot is how it mellows people out. Many people with anxiety disorders smooth things out with pot. Better than Xanax or valium-lol. And as hard as it may be to believe, pot will be used as a substitute for hard drugs. When people start growing it and can get it for free watch hard drug use decline and watch drug violence decline. Big time. I think the Colorado experiment will be just like the hysteria the right wing had about gays in the military. A tempest in a tea pot. Same old fantasies the RW always puts out there because they don't know very much. We liberals knew 40 years ago the "war on drugs" was nuts. And now everyone agrees it was nuts.
