Wharf:

IMO the tick increase is not due to any increase in the world temperatures. Also IMO the CDC has been doing its best to hide the prevalence of the disease which is why there is a controversy in diagnosing and treating it.

Ticks were identified in the Americas with Lewis and Clark so they are not a new here. I just know growing up in the 60's I never knew what a tick was and now they are quire prevalent in Connecticut.

Don't count out the relationship of the DDT ban and then the identification of Lyme disease 3 years later. Yes deer population growth is a factor as well as the increase in the white footed mouse. The mouse is actually where the tick picks up the bacteria and the deer provides a host carrier transport it around (more so than birds).
