swrdfsh,

If a company (LU, NT, CPQ, whoever) knows all of the major players in the LAN/WAN networking field (CSCO, ASND, COMS, BAY, CS) and they know all of the potential acquired company's product strengths and weaknesses, and then continue to acquire companies this tells me that they have outlined their intentions. If you know who you are interested in and start acquiring the fringe companies that could enhance a core company acquistion, the only company in my mind that fits into the puzzle with the least overlap is ASND.

IMHO,

Steve

If LU plans to buy a major networker, wouldn't it make more sense to do that first. After the big acquisition, it would be easier to determine exactly where the gaps would be. Then they would be in a better position to buy the right smaller players. Swrdfish, Lu cannot use the pooling of interests tax advantage until October 98. Therefore, a large aquisition would incurr a large amount of tax. It would be wise to get a foothold in the network sector on a small scale until October of 98. The small aquisitions will also be digested well by then. Had the pooling of interests not been an issue, I would agree. Glenn

That's very logical and I have to agree with your view.
