‘Celebrity Big Brother’: Boxer Evander Holyfield Compares Gays to Handicaps, Boy George Reacts
International Business Times ^ | 01/06/2014 | By Arijita Bhowmik

Contestant of British reality show "Celebrity Big Brother" ex-heavyweight boxing champ, Evander Holyfield caused an outrage with degrading anti-gay comments and has now been warned by the show makers.

Holyfield in conversation with Luisa Zissman said that being gay was not normal, and that they could be treated by a doctor just like the physically disabled.

"The Bible lets you know, that's wrong, that's right. If you were born and your leg were turned this way, what do you do, you go to the doctor and get it fixed back right... All I'm trying to tell you, you know how handicapped people are born, you can't say because they were born that way,"

The retired boxer's opinion did not go down well with Zissman, who explained that such comparison did not hold valid since "it's not a choice." To this the boxer retorted, "Yes it is a choice, come on, that ain't the way nobody is made."

Soon after, Holyfield was called to the confession room where he was warned and told that his comments were offensive and went against the show's rules. The boxer said he understood the situation but failed to apologize and said that his comments were his personal opinion and was not aimed at anyone.

Reacting to Holyfield's anti-gay comments, English singer Boy Gerorge took to Twitter to express his disgust at the boxer's controversial comments.

"Shame, I had such admiration for Mr Evander Holyfield, he seemed dignified and I was sure he was a cool, smart, giant!"

"I think anyone visiting this country for any reason should be cautioned and forced to swear allegiance to 'Queens & country!!" and added "At customs there should be a huge sign! Welcome to Britain, racism, sexism, homophobia and bad hair are not tolerated!" 5Holyfields' anti-gay comments on 5 January's episode also had him nominated for eviction along with Zissman for failing to execute a task.
