I think MSFT was delighted to report the Japan news. They are masters of the art of playing the Street expectations game. Even if there was an earnings shortfall pending (which they say there isn't), they have piled away a huge chunk of deferred revenue to smooth over any rough spots. I think that's one of the main reasons the market awards them a high P/E.
