They are 2 different entities. My 401K, and my checking account are in the same sense two different entities, but the only important relevant entity is me. When I borrowed from my 401K, I didn't create an asset, it wasn't an investment. Similarly when the federal government moves money between different federal organizations it isn't investing anything.Reagan was wrong when he said SS having nothing to do with the deficit. Do you think it would have been better if they put my SS taxes in a non interest-paying coffee can, and the UST borrow more from China? I'm not saying anything would be better, or worse. I'm observing and analyzing what is, not saying what should be.
