Eric please. In my Cleveland life experience this was the third major cold trauma. The last was 20 years ago. That damn vortex must have been around way back even then.

You guys have a great gig going. If it is hot it is global warming. If it is cold it is climate change. Do you not see the desperation in your arguments? You can never be wrong.

It really does not matter. If warming is going to happen it is going to happen. The o ly question is if you guys wreck the economies of the first world nations along the way. Oh yes I know how much the left "cares" about the poor. You guys purport to care so loudly.

How much did Mr income equality spend on his vacation?

Get real.

Bob

US polar vortex may be example of global warming
A few researchers came up with a hypothesis that as the poles warm the jet stream would weaken and that would result in more waviness of the jet stream. However, recent work by Professor Elizabeth Barnes of Colorado State has shown that there were methodological deficiencies in the research suggesting increased jet undulations with global warming. And that there is no observational evidence of increased waviness. Furthermore, there is little evidence that the jet approaching North America has weakened recently.

Is global warming causing the polar vortex?

In a word, no.

And now for the 2nd question: Does the massive cold air outbreak blanketing much of the U.S. disprove global warming?

Same word: no.

The media are mostly in stupid mode over this one.

Cliff Mass provides a good overview, the punch lines:

The bottom line: the claims that greenhouse warming causes more cold waves like we have seen this week really seems to be without any basis in observational evidence or in theory. The media needs to stop pushing this unsupported argument.

It is SO frustrating that every major weather event causes such claims and counterclaims to be aired, with many media outlets unable to do the minimal research that would allow them to give the public more dependable information.

All this bogus reporting has done substantial damage, with many American’s believing that global warming is already causing our winter weather to become more extreme, while the observational evidence suggests no such thing. One day some sociologists will study this situation and the psychological elements that drove it.

The arguments in favor of an AGW impact on the cold air in the U.S. come from Jennifer Francis (see this previous post).

If nothing else, the ‘polar vortex’ has stimulated some good cartoons:

I am currently sitting in Atlanta Hartfield Airport, trying to get to New York City tonite, flights are still messed up. The more interesting challenge may be getting out of NYC tomorrow nite. In any event, in a few weeks I will be able to discuss what promises to be an EXTREMELY interesting meeting in NYC.

ROTFLOL

Did global warming cause the kooks to get stuck in the expanding Antarctic ice during summer? Is global warming why the Antarctic ice cap is larger than at any time in recorded history?

You knee jerk liberals are too easy to poke fun at.
