Bob,

IBM could get away with it because in addition to making chips, they were selling x86 crosslicense. NSM will now be able to look for more competitive rates from IBM and other foundries.

Another positive for NSM is that they owned rights to make x86 competitive chips, which turned out to be a valuable asset, but did not derive any revenue from it.

I wonder what the market price of x86 license. Anyway, instead of Cyrix having to pay rent for the license to outside entities, now the money can stay at NSM and passed to the shareholders.
