Govt is corrupt. The promise is equal protection under the law but what you really get is pure corruption. Take Obama for example. Swears an oath several times to faithfully execute the laws of the United States. Next thing he does is IGNORE enforcement of laws he doesn't like or writes Executive Orders to bypass laws he doesn't like.

Yes there is a massive amount of government (far too much) but it doesn't represent more than a fraction of society, it certainly doesn't equal society. Its also not the main thing that holds us together, and is only part of what maintains civilization. If the rest doesn't function well government won't be able to take over. You won't have a strong society without the non-government part of society being strong.
