Myth #7: Microsoft gave away Encarta Encyclopedia free until it became the market share leader. Now that Encarta Encyclopedia is in the lead, Microsoft charges for updates. FACT: This allegation was made by Netscape's paid lawyer Gary Reback at the anti-Microsoft conference sponsored by Ralph Nader. Once again, Mr. Reback does not have his facts straight. Microsoft has never given Encarta Encyclopedia away free. In direct contrast to Mr. Reback's baseless statement, the price of Encarta has fallen over time, even as the product has continually grown in size and scope. BTW, I agree that it's big. Wretched excess, and very hard to use, particularly for newbies. I don't see why I should need to keep buying more powerful machines just to compile applications that are approximately of the same complexity as those I did 4 years ago. Porkware. Chaz
