In Salt Lake City, the unemployment rate as of 11/13 was 3.5%. Now, try to get any unemployed person in CA to move to Salt Lake City..

When I first moved to Silicon Valley, my CEO kindly had me over for Christmas, since he knew I was far from anyone I knew. He lived in a normal middle class ranch house in Palo Alto, 4 bdrm/2ba, 2 car garage, 1/4 acre lot in a subdivision. He told me his house was worth a million dollars!

I told him, in Austin, Tx. where I'd moved from, at the time (early '90's) he could get an actual mansion on an acre with an olympic sized pool for $1 mil. He just laughed, and told me that, yeah, but then he'd have to live in Texas!

If one works in tech one can :-)

And actually, there are lots of other jobs too. Our workforce seems to be exploding right now. I watch the ads because of my students, and graduated students- we often talk about what's available where.
