ROFL

I actually hate swimming in the ocean, so I'm happy with it just the way it is. You may not know this, but kelp forests need cold water, and our kelp forests are one of the most amazing things about our off shore ecosystems. I worked for an ichthyologist in college who spent time studying some of the denizens of those forests, so they are near and dear to my heart. California is perfect for me. There is nowhere on Earth I've been to that is more perfect. Every day I say a little "thank you" to the fates for letting me end up here. Walking among the grapes year round- in the moderate weather- never having to shovel snow, or slip on ice, or drive on ice, never having a flood, or a tornado or a hurricane...

Sure, there are earthquakes- but I've lived through a bunch of those, and never even had a piece of glassware broken (knock on wood).

I'm sure California isn't for everyone, but I don't think I could live happily anywhere else. I love this place. Intensely. Of course I was born in California, as was my husband. Maybe that makes us more intimately connected to the state. I don't know.
