Yes, you are right Meta. They did it because they thought they could do it. That is about to change in NC. We'll see how it affects the other university systems. IMHO, college administrations have become complacent due to the ease which they have raised tuition ( at something like twice the rae of inflation) for everyone (not just the middle class) over the last two decades. Ease of getting a loan for school contributed to this. Push back on that is now underway.

Of course it is always easier to "shift" than to "cut fat". That is a problem not just located in the public university systems.
