SVS Develops World's First "True" Hybrid Bookmobile

Specialty Vehicle Services, LLC. (SVS) is proud to announce the successful development of the world's first "true" hybrid bookmobile. Based on the new Freightliner M2e platform, the new bookmobile being purchased by the Mendocino County Library (CA) will draw all of its stationary power needs directly from the Eaton hybrid drive system, without the need for diesel-fueled auxiliary generator.

"Although stationary hybrid power systems have been available for some time, this is the first vehicle (in this modality) that will be constructed on a hybrid drive chassis and completely eliminate an auxiliary power system" says SVS' President Michael Swendrowski. "After working with engineers at both Freightliner and Eaton, we determined that all of the library's on-board power needs (i.e. lights, HVAC, etc.) could be satisfied by the on-board Li-Ion battery pack and Eaton exclusive Auxiliary Power Generator (APG). The library will enjoy not only improved fuel economy from the hybrid drive system, but also clean, quiet power while the vehicle is at its stops serving its patrons" Swendrowski continues. "We are excited about this innovative project and hope it becomes the first of a new breed of sustainable specialty vehicles."
