If you go far from the Urban Cores by more than about 50% of the city radius this phenomenon is true of most states (including CA). Fortunately, I live in one of the California wine appellations and work 10 miles from where I live at a tech company. I can see the Milky Way when the sky is clear - most nights. However, if I drive into the Central Valley, the effects of the Dust Bowl migration of southerners has created a chuchy / winger culture . Stay along the coast and near big cities, it's fine. Go into the foothills and valleys - you might as well be in Oklahoma, Utah or Idaho.

I don't like it personally- but societies certainly have the ability to have slavery if it works. My response only seems circular to you because you do not understand it.There is no right and wrong. There is no absolute morality. Morality is whatever society says it is. Murder is whatever society says it is. I happen to personally like the logic of birth as a cutoff. But society COULD define all abortions as murder. And that would then be murder. I would think it was impractical and silly- but my opinion wouldn't matter if the majority decided to change enough laws in this country to make it happen. The unborn are human tissue. I don't know whether they are human beings- since that totally depends on how you define "being". I would argue that because society is a contract a society can do whatever it wants - and other countries should not intervene in a military fashion. So to have an internal holocaust (or civil war) is the sovereign right of a country . You may not like that I think that- but it is completely rational, totally non-circular, and completely consistent. Three things your tissue of beliefs and superstitions are not.

And it doesn't matter what other inhumane things people do. Doing worse things does not lessen the atrocities of making veal or foie gras. And I am glad the small farmers suffered. Their rightful karma coming back to bite them in the ass for being such terrible human beings. I have never had anything stolen. The folks come around to try and sell me alarm systems and I tell them to get lost.Your neighborhood watch thing sounds horrible to me. The last thing I want to be a part of is a paranoid vigilante group. If I lived in an area with so much crime I was that worried about it I would move. Too many people are too paranoid about everything. And I don't want to encourage it. That is what Bush prayed on during 9/11 and people willingly gave away their civil rights for his supposed protection and started two wars . Exaggerated fear is where the despots always start when they want to exercise control over the people. Now we have to worry about the government. One of the characteristics that seem to differentiate liberals from conservatives is their amount of fear. Conservatives generally are more fearful than liberals. I try no to be paranoid. It can become a bad habit. Paranoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep, it starts when your always afraid-lol.siliconinvestor.com
