SteveG: >> My point was that LU has the wherewithall to announce an acquisition if they wanted to <<

The Prominet purchase isn't going to use pooling-of-interests and this purchase is an order of magnitude different from an ASND purchase. LU can purchase companies today with their stock, but they can't use the pooling-of-interests accounting method until April-98.

>> Recent speculation is that ASND may more likely be acquired by Nortel. <<

Again, when a company drops from ~$80 to the mid-$20's acquisition rumors start. I'm under the impression Lucent wasn't going to purchase ASND for a number of reasons. Yurie, Agile, Livingston, Prominet, LU's-ATM-product-line, Pooling-of-interest, plus ~6 billion dollars. How can we go from LU making an offer of $35 last week, to Nortel making an offer this week?

Best of luck... until later.
