It says here ...

The mechanical (elastoviscous) properties of Synvisc are, however, superior to those of synovial fluid and hyaluronan solutions of comparable concentration. Hylans are degraded in the body by the
same pathway as hyaluronan, and breakdown products are nontoxic.
