OSO - great point about refinancing costs! Completely missed that. [But in reference to the big multinantional caps don't you think that "overall" a strong dollar hurts earnings. They always use this excuse to explain away poor performance.] Will absolutely grant TSO that for capital intensive companies cheap capital is good!

Have evaded the tricky questions posed in previous post... This Mangy Bear does not know where to begin. It's the DUH I DON'T KNOW THAT response...

Bet with your 2 year time span you'll love this news:
techweb.com
Handelsman told us on
Thurday that his 1998 outlook was "strong to
very strong" for both the semiconductor and the
semiconductor equipment industry. Most
interesting was his description of the slopes
created by AFI's forecasting models: "The
charts looks a lot like they did during '92, '93,
and '94. Unit volume growth rates continue to
be quite robust." Does this sound familiar?

---

This mangy bear wants to also remind TSO that the comments about earnings revisions were for the entire market as a whole. LSI you are right will see as the leader of the SLC's would put it a "wash" effect.

---

This mangy bear would also like to draw TSO's attention to this important recent Barron's article:
interactive.wsj.com

If for some reason the link does not work the article points out that the 3 top reasons the BIG BOYS (or the BIG DOLTS depending on your viewpoint) buy/sell stocks:

1. earnings surprises
2. ROE
3. earnings revisions

Since semis are s/t not doing a thing with 1. and 3. we see selling. (Actually this evil one is bending the truth. There are other reasons as you can see if you can pull up the article that are right up there with these 3 - the reasons "bunch up" - and therefore drawing conclusions based on top 3 is not without fault.)

Still this evil one loves simplicity and this looks simple (maybe simplistic)...
