I wouldn't have thought that Ice would push down the earth equal to it's own height...
One thing that is important to note is that there is a time lag from when the ice is removed from the land and when that land rebounds upward. The area around the great lakes is still rising even though the ice retreated thousands of years ago. It will still be rising when the next glacial period starts and covers the land with another sheet of ice...thus impeding the upward progress.
