"Adherents of these beliefs should not face life-ruining disadvantages. They should not have to close their businesses" Also true. When people are forced by either the church or the state to subvert their own values (provided those values are consistent with the Constitution and with individual rights), then humanity has a great deal to be ashamed of. But that is why we have a justice system: to champion the rights of people when others or the State overstep the boundaries of fairness and common decency.
