Joe, you are in a tough situation. You are trying to trade from a country where the communications are inferior. YOu are at a disadvantage to begin with. My first question would be,
what are you trying to get out of the trading? How often to you plan on trading? How comfortable do you feel with the internet connections?

Look, clearly you have no choice as to where you live. But you don't want to push a bad situation, meaning, if all the numbers work out soyou can't effectively trade, DONT. They will take your money laughing and noone will give it back to you.

If you decide to infact give a shot to trading, depending on the volume you will do, since you are abroad andhave no other choice, I would think that just about any of the online firms will fit the bill.
Forget the places that only use ISLD. They limit the types of stocks you can play, and don't offer all the executions systems. Use a place that offers ISLD, just not exclusively.

Given their size, their strong balance sheets, etc and relatively cheap trades and that they are a market maker actively in many stocks, I woulduse DLJDirect IF I WERE IN YOUR POSITION. Nonetheless, I don't endorse these online firms for anyone that as an affordable alternative.
