Sonki--- I have enough AMAT,SUNW,and CPQ to last. I have more ORCL than I want. Am able to buy,,, traders love buying AND selling, but will be using caution in next few weeks. This drop may get bigger (another 10%?) and hang around for awhile. Then again we may see a rise Thursday that keeps on going. I am going to take a break and go house shopping. Time to check out that market and trade up. Might just look there too. Time for a breather as the institutions do not know what they are doing or what to do... their actions hurt us badly already. I think they should calm down... put booze in the water fountains to make them relax.

John

Oracle. Slowdown in database demand more important than Asian problems (which will undoubtedly get worse in next few quarters.)

Sorta like the cheap computer problem. New version, Oracle 8, isn't knocking peoples socks off. Migration to turnkey solutions anyway, where Oracle has entries but is loosing out to SAP, BAAN, Psft, etc.

Ellison's eyes are STILL way off the ball on his ego trips. Very much unlike Billy boy.

And, to make matters worse, NT is gaining share, and especially is gaining Mindshare (leading indicator) and Oracle laggs there.

I think the inevitability of Oracle is now very much in question, unlike Msft, and for a software company dependent on maintaining loyalty to its standards, etc. that is crucially important.

Heavy insider selling last few months, esp. by the eyes on the ball COO.

And remember, Orcl is hardly cheap at these levels despite loosing 1/3rd. Valuation now matters again in tech, since 98 earning, five year growth rates, etc. are all very much in question for most cos.

If this thing were to bounce significantly, I will consider shorting it.
