When I hear these stories I always wonder what nearly unemployable degree did they receive?

Sociology, History, Art, Gender Studies???

When I went with my daughter to the Univ. Washington orientation class - the person giving the tour was also a UW graduate - in gender studies. Which I pointed out to my daughter was why she was still working at the school as a tour guide.

Those counselors should really try to provide a realistic expectation of employment to those students based on major. Some of those fields are direct paths to teaching jobs - but only if you get a PhD.

same here, my son with a computer engineer degree has a great job and was just stolen away for an even better job. But his friends and brother can't find work, 3 have business degrees, two have criminal justice degrees and they can get a job as cops, 2 chemistry, one bio. absolutely no work out there and I'm in DC.

tough to get a gov job unless and I don't mean to be racist, you are a certain color or you have a relative in the gov.
