Maybe they're losing a lot of engineers

michael, iom has been working with RDRT as RDRT supplies heads to IOM, but more specifically, they've been working on upgrading to MR with new products and improving current products. RDRT is going to go totally to MR by the first quarter of next year, thus, IOM must transfer to the MR side to continue to use RDRT as its supplier, and to my knowledge and according to RDRT, IOM is not looking elsewhere for heads - thus they will transfer by early next year, and no doubt this transformation will improve yield (thus lowering cost), speed, and storage.

GMR is an exciting product. RDRT is also working on GMR, although IBM made a significant announcement in this regard, RDRT has been working on their own GMR version for over two years. they have a working copy and i don't know why they've not announced anything in this regard. they were coy with analysts during the last conference call regarding GMR.
