and what about hydro's footprint? The eco system destruction by hydro is second only to agriculture.

It just depends on the flow of organic matter in those reservoirs behind the dams. Here in North America there is very little organic matter flowing into them. The Columbia river system for example is very, very clean and clear. You can't have methane being generated without some form of organic decay.

That cannot be said for many systems in the tropic areas and in China. Africa also has some problems too after seeing them first hand myself.
