As I recall the administrative costs for medicare is 4% and for private insurance 40%.

That is on the high side for private insurance. But it usually doesn't drop much below 20%.

If you include the extra help they get from IRS and SS for Medicare, the percentage gets into the 7%-8% range.

My understanding is 8% and 20ish percent.
