Hi J_F_Shepard; Re: "Did the student develop proofs for those equations or not? Spare me your CSI forensics.";

The hell do you think they give you a PhD for? Attendance???

Of course the students do the work. What I tell grad students who are worrying about their grades: "Good grades are how you got into grad school. Research is how you get out. Make sure you keep a B average. [The department will eventually cut your funding if you stay below B.] If you have a problem with your average, sign up for some easier classes, LOL. But research is why you're here now, grades do not matter."

The thing about lefties is that they seem to be convinced that if they can't figure it out, nobody else could either. No. The world is filled with very talented people who compete hard in math and physics.

Do you have any idea how many new proofs are proved each year???

Here's a list of the mathemics journals whose names start with "A":

The rest of the mathematics journals are listed here:
en.wikipedia.org

Now the typical journal publishes 4 to 12 issues per year. Each issue has perhaps a dozen articles. Each article has perhaps a dozen proofs.

You do the math.

There are thousands and thousands of new proofs published each year in mathematics and plenty more published in physics.
