There are no self-evident rights of the individual.
Stop right there. Thomas Jefferson said the following:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
This has been THE foundation for American society, politics, and culture. We treasure our rights. That in itself should be self-evident

You don't believe in self-evident rights. You believe that society can vote away your rights (except when it comes to gay marriage, apparently).

You think that the very foundations of American society should be nullified because they are imperfect and inconvenient for those trying to create your vision of an ideal society.

THAT is what I consider to be the seeds of despotism, because you don't believe in individual rights.
