lets see do you want a few people killed every year by some lone lunatic. Or have lunatics like Hitler, mao, pol pot , stalin killed 100s of millions because the citizens are unarmed

So that's why we had to give Maine and Detroit back to the British. Hadn't realized that.

Well they couldn't buy an automobile either so by this logic, they should be illegal too. On the other hand, I did show that a citizen was able to, and did, buy a machine far more powerful, that is, a warship armed with cannon.

Disregarding the question of whether or not "known lunatics" can buy an "assault weapon", LOL, I'll note that I just showed you that known lunatics can and did buy weapons of the largest strength then available, weapons which are *far* more powerful than an "assault weapon". An example of a lunatic buying such a weapon is Jean Laffite, the pirate, who helped repulse the British at New Orleans.

But the reason the British (not the Candians, LOL) agreed to a peaceful end to the war of 1812 with boundaries restored to the situation before the war was because of the privately owned weapons of American citizens. Namely those privateers I mentioned. By 1814 British maritime insurance rates for shipping between Ireland and Britain had risen to 13%. This was more than it had been when Britain was fighting essentially all of Europe. Lloyds of London put pressure on the British government to settle due to ship losses, which were about 2 per day and 80% of that was from privately owned warships:
