I think his point is that if you have to release lower-priced workers because of the hike in minimum wage,
and more work is added to higher wage earners,
then those higher wage earners might leave because of the extra work.
I would see his point IFF there were a direct link of cause and effect to give that situation.
Maybe there is somewhat at the low end of the scale.
BUT, it would all be based on business decisions.
Your labor costs will rise and fall based on your profits.
No one will be released if you can justify keeping them employed due to the profits they cause to come in.
If extra minimum-waged cashiers cause customers to be happy and come more often to a certain McDonalds . . .
then the owner will keep more minimum-waged cashiers employed.
If on the other hand the extra cost of a higher minimum-wage causes the owner to have to raise the price of burgers and less people buy them lowering his profits . . .
then he will have to release some of those minimum waged employees in order to be able to lower his prices and raise his profits once again.
Simple economics .. not discrimination nor inequality.
